Once upon a time in the mid-1800s, there was a Métis girl moving to the Red River...
One of my final projects at college was to create something that would help diffuse stereotypes about indigenous groups, particularly those around Brandon, Manitoba.  I tasked myself to create a children's book about the Métis, bringing in elements of Métis culture into a bright and vivid story about a girl named Marie, and the traditions that exist in her family.
The book was one of three student-created stories.   Each was printed, with the Assiniboine Community College intending to fund more copies to be donated to local schools and libraries.
